Joseph S. Vasile, MD, MBA joined GRIPA as President/CEO in July 2010.

Dr. Vasile is a practicing physician in the specialty of Behavioral Health with a subspecialty in Geriatric Psychiatry. He has held several hospital and administrative appointments in Rochester, including Chief of the Behavioral Health Network for the Rochester General Health System, Director of Psychiatry and Mental Health Services at the Rochester Rehabilitation Center, Chief Psychiatrist for Geriatric Psychiatry, Intermediate Care and Neuropsychiatry Units at Rochester Psychiatric Center and Director of Acute Psychiatric Services at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Vasile has served on a number of health system committees dedicated to quality, education, and organizational planning. He has been a member of GRIPA’s Finance Committee since 2003. Dr. Vasile is active in several professional and scientific societies and has published articles in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and Schizophrenia Research. He is a member of the American College of Physician Executives and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

He completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University, received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Following a residency in Psychiatry at the University Health Center of Pittsburgh, Dr. Vasile completed a Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Vasile is a Clinical Professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is a requested speaker at national events related to Accountable Care Organizations and their best practices.

Dr. Coffey joined the Greater Rochester Independent Practice Association (GRIPA) as Chief Medical Officer in October 2024. Dr. Coffey is Board Certified in Family Medicine and is an experienced family physician who has won several awards throughout his career for his excellent patient care.

Dr. Coffey is a renowned national leader in Value-Based Care, having run a very successful Medicare Accountable Care Organization (ACO) which was repeatedly in the top 10% of all ACO’s in the country for both quality and cost-savings. He then went on to be a Senior Medical Director at ChenMed, a national leader in delivering excellent care to at-risk seniors with Medicare Advantage. Due to his leadership and passion for quality care, the patients in his practices consistently received among the highest scores for quality and cost-effective care.

Dr. Coffey currently chairs the GRIPA Committees on Clinical Integration and Credentialing, serves on several RRH committees, and serves on two regional quality committees, the Excellus Partnering to Achieve Quality Provider Advisory Committee and the Finger Lakes Performing Provider System Clinical Quality Committee. He has been a frequent presenter at both national and international medical meetings on value-based care, and was the invited chair of a national conference on accountable care. He has been active in medical education, teaching hundreds of medical students and residents over the last two decades. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

He completed his undergraduate education at Miami University in his home state of Ohio, and he received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Tufts University in Boston.

JENNIFER BRIGGS, CPA

Jennifer Briggs joined GRIPA in 2002 and was named interim Chief Operating & Finance Officer in 2019. She is part of the senior management team and has responsibilities for finance and operations throughout the company.

During her tenure at GRIPA, Jennifer has held various positions including Director of Finance and Vice President of Finance. She has been instrumental in GRIPA’s growth from fee-for-service to value-based contracting and integral in creating a greater focus on population health management. Prior to joining GRIPA, Jennifer worked for Ernst & Young in their corporate tax practice. She is a CPA and holds an accounting degree from Asbury University.

She has served as an accounting and financial advisor for several faith-based organizations and regularly teaches personal finance classes within the community.
